Jeremy Hilton signs petition to oppose waste incinerator

Jeremy Hilton is a truly local candidate, who was born and educated in Gloucester.

He is a local councillor in Gloucester who has served the community for over eighteen years.

Jeremy has a reputation as a tough campaigner who takes a no nonsense approach to his work as a community representative.

Jeremy Hilton has said:

"Gloucester needs a new voice to speak up for the city in the House of Commons."

"We have been let down by the current Labour MP and I know I can do better.

"The next MP for Gloucester should fight for a better deal for this city.

"He shouldn't compromise himself, in an attempt to hold onto a ministerial career.

"Gloucester's next MP must be our champion rather than Westminster's."

Jeremy continues to oppose the city MP's plan to axe the TriService fire control and move it to Taunton. He has given evidence already to a House of Commons Select Committee saying how daft it is to close down Gloucestershire's fire control after it and the service performed superbly during the 2007 floods.

The floods of 2007 saw Gloucester City Football Club become homeless after its ground was once again flooded for the third time in 15 years, making club play home matches in Cirencester. Jeremy is the chairman of the city council football task group that is working to bring the Tigers back home.

Jeremy continues to fight to protect the city's heritage and ensure that quality regeneration is delivered. Recently he was the prime mover in establishing a conservation area for Denmark Road and other neighbouring streets.

He is battling to stop the Conservative controlled council from building a massive waste incinerator in Gloucester. Jeremy wants to see the council use low carbon technologies to process household waste rather than burning it.

Jeremy Hilton is prepared to take on responsibilities for the public good. He held the office as the Cabinet Member for Community Services from 2001 to 2005 at Shire Hall. He opened the TriService Centre in 2003 and commissioned the building of the new Library for Longlevens.

Jeremy Hilton currently represents the Liberal Democrats as a member on the Local Government Association's Fire Services Management Committee.
