Managing Director Mark Ryan talks to Jeremy Hilton at Gloucestershire Airport
Liberal Democrat councillor, Jeremy Hilton, is the new chairman of the board of directors at Gloucestershire Airport. He takes over from former chairman, Gerry Gearing who has retired from the board.
Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council jointly own the municipal airport, located at Staverton.
Jeremy Hilton said: "I want to first thank my predecessor, Gerry Gearing, for his leadership and hard work at the airport. He did a good job. Gloucestershire Airport is a great asset to the county's economy and its transport needs.
"My major task, as I take over the chair, is to complete the Runway Safety Project (RSP), which will ensure that the airport retains its Code 2 status. This will secure the airport's future and financial health.
"The RSP will remove obstructions from either end of the main runway, add 14 metres of tarmac to its length and install an instrument landing system (ILS)."
"The RSP will increase the safety of aircraft landing at the airport, especially in bad weather."
"The trading environment has been tough in the last two years, because of the recession, but as the economy strengthens, so should the airport, completion of the RSP is crucial to the airport's future"
Gloucestershire Airport has introduced a green policy to help reduce carbon emissions with a ceiling on the maximum number of flights per year.
