Jeremy Hilton inspecting Hyde Lane
Liberal Democrat councillors for Kingsholm and Wotton have expressed their frustration over the delays in the resurfacing of Hyde Lane, off London Road in Gloucester.
Jeremy Hilton & Sebastian Field have called for Hyde Lane to be resurfaced to make it safe for pedestrians and cyclists using this route to get to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Jeremy Hilton said: "The top end of Hyde Lane is a private road of which 60% is fronted by land owned by the hospital trust. For the past two years, I have had meetings with both the county council and the hospital to progress this project to resurface the road and have it adopted by the county. At a meeting held yesterday, I was amazed to hear that the county council had done nothing and did not have cabinet member approval.
"The hospital has done a ground condition survey and this indicates that there are no major problems and the project should cost no more than £60,000 to complete. With the NHS covering 60% of the cost, the bill to the county would be about £24,000" Jeremy Hilton added
Sebastian Field said: "London Road is a major bus route into Gloucester and many people use Hyde Lane to walk to the rear entrance to the hospital. It is also used by local residents. The road should be safe for outpatients, visitors and staff to use. The county council must get on and work with the Hospital Trust to make Hyde Lane safe."
